DRDO Missile Test: The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is preparing to take a big step on its new missile technology. DRDO will soon test a secret missile in the Bay of Bengal. The discussion of this test is on the emphasis in the defence sector, but more information is not shared about it. According to the news, this test can be done to Visakhapatnam, which is the major base of the Indian Navy.

Which missile will be part of the test?

It is believed that the test may be of a cruise missile (SLCM) or K-15 Sagarika missile launched from Submarine. DRDO has recently released NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) declaring "No-Fly Zone" between 27 to 30 November in the Bay of Bengal. It indicates that this test can be a missile of a medium range.

SLCM: technology that beats the enemy

DRDO had successfully tested SLCM in February 2023, with a range of up to 500 km. This missile holds the ability to dodge the radar by flying at a little height from the sea. Its speed can range from 864km/hour to 1000km/hour. It is transported to the target with the help of Indian navigation system and RF CKER.

USP:

  • C-Skimming Capacity: The missile flies close to the water surface, making it difficult to track.
  • Terren-Hugging Technique: This missile flies with the ground height, allowing the enemy radars to not hold it.
  • Warhead Options: Presition-low-blast and airburst warheads can be applied.

K-15 Sagarika: Death from the seaside

Defence News opinions
