The Senior Command Course concluded on Thursday at Army War College, marking an important milestone for a new batch of mid-career officers preparing to take on higher command responsibilities in the Indian Army.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi, Commandant of the Army War College. Addressing the officers, he congratulated them on successfully completing what is considered one of the Army’s most demanding professional military education programmes. He underlined that modern battlefields are evolving rapidly and require leaders who can think strategically, adapt quickly, and operate effectively across multiple domains.
The course is designed to prepare officers for commanding battalions and equivalent formations. Over several weeks, participants underwent rigorous training that focused on operational planning, leadership under pressure, decision-making in uncertain scenarios, and managing complex military operations. Emphasis was also placed on contemporary warfare concepts, including the integration of land, air, cyber, space, and information domains.
This year’s batch included not only Indian Army officers but also 28 officers from friendly foreign nations and three officers from the Central Armed Police Forces. The diverse composition of the course added depth to discussions and strengthened professional bonds between participating countries. It also reflected India’s growing role in defence cooperation and joint preparedness initiatives.
