Light Weight Modular MissileAir defense capacity of the Indian Army has got a new strength. The Corps of Army of the Indian Army under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence signed an important agreement with the UK’s company Theles. Under this agreement the Army Light Weight will purchase the Modular Missile System (LMM).
This missile system is light, portable and extremely fatal just like its name. It can be deployed in any terrain by moving the soldier to his shoulder, whether it is desert, jungle or elevation inaccessible to Ilaka. The deal took place on 15th October 2025 and is being considered to be the most important defense deal after the Indian Army’s operation shift.
Light Weight Modular Missile
According to defence sources, LMM missile systems have been purchased specifically for destroying modern air hazards such as drones and UAVs. The Indian Army was unhappy that the drone will be the most important part of the war in the coming wars after the attempts to detect and supply the fallen through the drone from Pakistan during the operation shift. Considering the same, the Army decided to include this new generation missile of the Theles into its fleet.
This missile system works on laser beam riding technology. i. The missile directly reaches the target by riding on the laser beam that runs towards its target. This technique is equipped with modern anti-jamming and anti-weaving capability, which does not give the chance to escape the enemy drones or aircrafts.
It is typical that this missile can work in all seasons whether there is rain, mist or fast winds in altitude areas. This missile can target at a distance of more than 6 kilometres and its single shot kill probability is very high. The proximity fuse in it and the high explosive warhead makes it more fatal.
A senior officer of the Indian Army reported that "This missile system is designed according to our needs after operation shifter. Given the rising drone threats on the borders of Pakistan and China, this system will enable the army to respond immediately to the front line.
Another particular point of this missile is that it can be combined with a multiplatform launching system. i. It can also be stained with a truck, helicopter, net ship or standalone launcher. This army provides flexibility in any type of operation whether it is border petroling or high-altitude air defense.
Ministry of Defence This deal has been a strategic achievement under the modernisation programme of the Indian Army. As per the Ministry, the purchase will not only increase the capacity of the Army but also strengthen the defence partnership of India. The sales company has already been active in the Indian defence sector and has collaborated India in Radar, Communication Systems and Missile Technology.
The Air Defense System of the Indian Army will get a new torrent after the deployment of this missile. This system can destroy enemy helicopters, fighter jets, drones, and UCAV (unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles) in extremely short time. It also recognizes the aerial targets that do not hold the traditional radar when it is also bearing on its low infrared signature targets.
जानकारों के मुताबिक, यह मिसाइल भारतीय वायु सेना के आकाश और क्यूआर-सैम (क्विक रिएक्शन सरफेस-टू-एयर मिसाइल) सिस्टम के साथ तालमेल में काम करेगी। जहां आकाश और क्यूआर-सैम बड़े हवाई खतरों से निपटने में उपयोगी हैं, वहीं एलएमएम मिसाइल छोटी दूरी टारगेट्स जैसे छोटे ड्रोन या लो-फ्लाइंग एयरक्राफ्ट्स के खिलाफ बेहद प्रभावी होगी।
मिसाइल सिस्टम के हल्के वजन के कारण इसे हाई-अल्टीट्यूड एरिया में तैनात करना बेहद आसान है। लद्दाख, सिक्किम और अरुणाचल प्रदेश जैसे इलाकों में जहां वायु दाब कम होता है और भारी हथियारों की तैनाती मुश्किल होती है, वहां एलएमएम अपनी पूरी क्षमता से काम करेगा।
रक्षा विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि इस मिसाइल सिस्टम के आने से भारतीय सेना की एंटी-ड्रोन आपरेशंस और टैक्टिकल एयर डिफेंस क्षमता में भारी सुधार होगा। हाल के वर्षों में पाकिस्तान और चीन ने सीमाओं पर बार-बार ड्रोन गतिविधियां बढ़ाई हैं, चाहे वह जासूसी के लिए हों या हथियार और नशे की तस्करी के लिए। ऐसे में यह सिस्टम इन चुनौतियों से आसानी से निपट सकेगा।
रक्षा मंत्रालय के अनुसार, इस प्रोजेक्ट के पूरा होने के बाद भारतीय सेना के कई एयर डिफेंस फॉर्मेशन को इस सिस्टम से लैस किया जाएगा। इससे फ्रंटलाइन यूनिट्स को तुरंत प्रतिक्रिया देने और दुश्मन की हवाई गतिविधियों को रोकने में बढ़त मिलेगी।
इस सौदे को “ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद भारतीय सेना का सबसे निर्णायक रक्षा अपग्रेड” कहा जा रहा है। जहां ऑपरेशन सिंदूर ने पाकिस्तान की हवाई और ग्राउंड क्षमताओं पर भारी चोट पहुंचाई थी, वहीं एलएमएम सिस्टम यह सुनिश्चित करेगा कि भविष्य में कोई भी हवाई खतरा भारत की सीमा पार न कर सके।
