105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade: Indian Army has equipped its old but extremely dependable 105mm Light Field Gun with new digital technology. The Army recently completed the successful firing trial and validation of the auto-lewing technology upgrade of this gun in the Italian-based Central-Proof Establishment (CPE) of Madhya Pradesh. This upgrade has been done by 506 Army Base Workshop (506 ABW).

The system was tested in the middle of May 2026, according to the defence sources. After this upgrade, the seals will no longer need to rotate the dial by hand to set the gun on the trail. The new electronic system will set the gun right direction and angle in a few seconds. This will significantly increase the survival speed of the gun, the survivor capacity during the acuracy and war.

105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade: Reliable Field Gun of Indian Army

105mm Light Field Gun has long been the important part of Indian Army’s Artillery Strength. This gun is specially used in hilly areas, deserts and tough battle areas. It can also be transported to forward posts with the help of helicopters, trucks or achestrated due to light weight.

The Indian Army has used this gun for several decades. This gun is considered quite effective in line of control and altitude areas. Although the way of modern war changed over time. In addition to getting the shells in the war, it is important to change the spur and the position immediately. Given this need, the army decided to upgrade the old gun with new technology.

How First Works Gun

The whole work of setting the gun to the target in the old system was manual. The gun crew had to set the direction and height by moving the dial by hand. Also, things like air speed, temperature, shell type and barrel condition were calculated manually.

Sources say that during corrosion this process took time. Gun position was difficult to change before the enemy’s responsive firing began several times. Modern counter-battery radars detect in a few seconds from which place the shells have been stained. There may be an attack immediately responding from the enemy side. That was why Indian army wanted to make their old artillery much faster and digital.

What is Auto Carrying Technology

Auto Carrying Technology means that the gun itself is set to the target with the help of electronic systems. It has digital fire control system, electronic sensor and motorized control installed.

Now the computer present in the gun itself will decide which direction and the angle to set the gun to attack the target. The system will process the air direction, temperature, barrel wear and the data of the shells used.

The electronic motor will then rotate the gun in the right direction. It will save time and the chances of mistake will be reduced significantly. 105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade

Will Ready Gun in a few seconds

The work will be in a few seconds after the new system, as per the defence formulas, where it took two to three minutes to prepare the gun.

This is a major change in the battlefield. Because now the guns will fire faster and shift to another place immediately. ""Shoot & Scoop"The capacity is considered to be very necessary in the Modern War. Especially when the counter-battery radar and long-distance artillery exists near the enemy.

The testing of this system was carried out under operational conditions in the Italian-based Central-Proof Establishment. Performance of the gun was checked in different weather and firing conditions.

Gun hit the target in a more precise way during the trial, according to formulas. The work of the gun crew also became much easier than before. The first round hit probability after this upgrade has also increased the chances of hitting the target in the first shells. 105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade

506 Large Role of Army Base Workshop

This upgrade is designed by 506 Army Base Workshop. This workshop is part of the Army’s Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) network. These workshops of the Army work to upgrade old weapons and military equipment. Over the past few years, these workshops have worked to connect several old systems with digital technology.

This project is also part of the "Sustained India" campaign," says Defence knowledge. Because a large part of the technology and integration used in it has been developed in the country itself. 105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade

New Life of Old Gun

A large number of 105 mm field guns are present near the Indian Army. New guns cost much more. So the army chose to upgrade the old gun from modern technology.

This method is considered more economical and practical, according to formulas. This also gives the army new capacity and continues to use the old system. The service life of the gun will also increase after this upgrade.

This gun is specially used in mountain and inaccessible areas. Its deployment is considered important in areas like Line of Actual Control (LAC) and Line of Control (LoC). 105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade

Counter-Battery Fire Big Danger

The biggest threat in modern war is counter-battery fire. When a gun fires, the enemy radar immediately tracks his location. The attack is then attacked in the same place.

The new auto-lewing technique allows the guns to quickly change their position by fireping faster. This will increase the chances of avoiding the responsive attack of the enemy.

The same technology is being used in the modern artillery systems of the world, according to the defence sources.

Let the Indian Army be increasingly modernizing its artillery system over the years. The Army has included new cannons like bows, K-9 Vazra, M-777 and ATAGS.

Also the Pinaca Multi Barrel Rocket System and Precision Guidedmission are also being emphasized. This upgrade of 105mm light field gun is being considered as part of the same large modernization program. 105mm Light Field Gun Upgrade
