PM Modi South Africa Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi moved to South Africa on a three-day tour on Friday morning. He will participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg. This G20 conference is so special as it is being held on the African continent for the first time. PM Modi will participate in this conference from 21 to 23 November, which will discuss major issues related to India and Global South.
This conference is the 4th consecutive G20 event with presidency to the Global South. Earlier in 2022, Brazil had chaired G20 in Indonesia, 2023 in India and 2024. This important meeting is now being held under the chairmanship of South Africa in 2025.
Prime Minister Modi has gone to South Africa three times before. He traveled bilateral in 2016, while joining the BRICS Summit in 2018 and 2023. The visit to this bar is also considered important as both India and South Africa are democratic countries and their relations are based on three major pillars political cooperation, economic partnership and multilateral coordination.
The Ministry of External Affairs reported that G20 is a platform where the world’s large economies together try to make consensus on global South’s concerns. He said South Africa has selected topics such as "Solidarity, Equivality, Sustainability" for his presidency, which are going to discuss all year round.
Prime Minister Modi will also visit several bilateral meetings during the conference. The African Union, which had received permanent membership during the presidency of India, will play an important role in shaping the agenda of this time.
