97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets: India approved a large defence deal worth Rs 62,000 crore on Tuesday under which Indian Air Force will get 97 Indigenous LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) Mark 1A fighter aircraft. This decision was taken at a high-level meeting. Sources linked to the Ministry of Defence reported that this deal is a big step towards self-sufficient India under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ scheme.

The Government has already ordered 83 LCA Mark 1A aircraft in Rs 48,000 crore. The new deal will replace the old MiG-21 aircraft of the air force, which is being phased out in the coming weeks.

LCA Tejas Programme has long been considered the backbone of India’s indigenous defence production. This will not only increase the air force, but also make small and medium-level industries big advantage, supplying equipment and parts connected to the defence sector across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continually insists on strengthening HAL and indigenous defence industry. He fled himself into the Tejas Trainer plane and gave the message that India can now create a modern fighter plane on his own. It was the first flight of any Indian Prime Minister in any Combat Aircraft.
