CDS on Indian Defence IndustryChief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has conveyed clear messages to Indian Private Defence companies that only the country’s security needs cannot be met by thinking of making profits. He said companies working in the country’s defence preparedness should definitely show a little patriotism and national sense in their work.
General Awareness It said during a seminar held in the United Services Institution. This statement of the CDS has come when many domestic companies are accused that they are not fulfilling the work given under the emergency procurement on a fixed time.
He said that when the Indian Army spoke to many companies for the fifth and sixth emergency procurement, most did not work as promised. According to the CDS, this condition is "unacceptable", as the delay in the defense process is directly affected by the army’s ability.
CDS on Indian Defence Industry: What is Emergency Procurement?
Emergency procurement is a process in which the army can sign itself immediately to Rs 300 crore without long government procedures. It is aimed at the weapons, equipment and systems needed in the event of war or stress.
But as per CDS, many Indian companies are not making timely deliveries while availing this arrangement, affecting operational needs.
"70 percent indigenous"- CDS replenishes false claims
CDS General Chauhan also said that many companies claim that their product is "70 per cent indigenous" but it is found incorrect in the investigation.
He said that it is extremely serious to provide incorrect information in matters related to national security. Many companies only assemblage the products imported from the outside to India, while the actual indigenous content is very low.
He stressed that companies should be transparent about their real potential, so that the army is not kept in wrong expectations.
CDS on Indian Defence Industry: What said Industry?
Sources of the industry acknowledged that CDS’ concerns are correct, but they also said that delays are not only on behalf of Indian companies.
According to the sources, large foreign companies such as the US, France, Israel and Russia did not even deliver several projects in time.
Yet, Indian private companies are expected to be much more because they are the major pillars of "Make in India" and "Solar India" and are expected to have a higher level of reliability.
Which Indian companies are exporting?
Interestingly, many Indian defence companies are exporting weapons and military equipment to many countries in Tata, L&T, Kalyani Group, SMPP, MKU, SSS defense world.
However Indian Army Yet many products have either bought a limited number or delayed the ordering process.

सीडीएस जनरल चौहान ने साफ कहा कि रक्षा सुधार “वन-वे स्ट्रीट” नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय सेना के साथ काम करने वाली हर कंपनी को अपनी क्षमता, तकनीकी कौशल और उत्पादन क्षमता के बारे में ईमानदार होना चाहिए।
किसी कॉन्ट्रैक्ट में देरी होने का मतलब है, सेना की ऑपरेशनल क्षमता कम होना, सीमा पर तैनात सैनिकों की जरूरतें समय पर पूरी न होना, जिसका राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा पर सीधा असर पड़ता है।
CDS on Indian Defence Industry सीडीएस ने कहा कि यह जिम्मेदारी बहुत बड़ी है, इसलिए निजी कंपनियों को अपने काम में समयबद्धता और गुणवत्ता दोनों सुनिश्चित करनी चाहिए।
