Kashmir in the Line of Fire: Major (R) General Ranjan Mahajan’s new book "Kin the Line of Fire" is dedicated to Indian soldiers serving under tough conditions in Kashmir Valley. In the book he has included those unwelcoming stories of the life of the soldiers, offering a true picture of the human judges not just the operation but between courage, friendship, sacrifice and struggle. Major General Mahajan also pointed out on the basis of his long experiences in the valley, how to change the Kashmir environment from the early years of terrorism to today and how the Indian Army faced the situation while strengthening its counter-terism grid.
Recently his new book was released in New Delhi. The program was named "Seremany of Gratitude", aimed at honoring the heroic seals who played duty between terrorism and violence in the valley. The event was organized with commemoration day of Rajputana Rifles Regiment. Major General Mahajan had received the commission in Rajputana Rifles in 1987, and serving in Kashmir for five times, he saw the Valley’s struggle, the sacrifice of the soldiers and the bravery of the locals extremely close.
Major General Mahajan has written the story of Kashmir in the book not just from the perspective of operation, but in the sight of humanity. There are many chapters, where the soldiers laugh, fear, friendship, and hope, as well as moving, among the incidences of the shooting and infiltration. They tell how soldiers protect the sitting valley overnight snow, how after every operation the memories of martyr peers take home in the heart, and how local citizens help the army by risking their lives several times. The book describes the 2014 operation of the voluntary sector. The Indian soldiers had stopped nine intruders. There were 8 piles, 1 caught. Operation was successful, but a 24-year-old young, Lance Nike Rajesh Kumar had his life. Major General Mahajan has explained the entire journey to the growth of terrorism in Kashmir, the changing strategies of infiltration and the strengthening of the counter-terrism grid in simple language. He explains how Kashmir’s atmosphere suddenly changed at the end of the 1980s and how India gradually handled the situation while coping with these challenges. In the book he has also written some of the major operations, such as the torch operation of 2014, and the story of Shaurya of Shahid Capton Tushar Mahajan.
According to Major General Mahajan, real corrosion is not just conquered by weapons, but won by stuff, dialogue and solidarity. He has given the role of the common people of the Valley in the book and his courage even equal. He mentioned how many times the locals put their lives at risk and shared the army with significant insights. The book also brings out the psychological pressures that the soldiers face every day.
Major General General Mahajans had resulted in a reduction in four Rajputana Rifles in 1987. During over 35 years of service, he handled Ahmad commands across India, including National Rifles, Infantry Brigade on Line of Control, and lead a division on the Western border. He has also been an alumnus of DSS, CDM and NDC and has been awarded Army Medals and Distinctive Service Medals.
"Kashmir in the Line of Fire" shows Kashmir not just as a struggle, but by the sight of real people who lived in the "Line of Fire" for years there, protecting the country.
